X-Acts is the Young Adult group at St. Xavier Church.
Comprised of parishioners ranging in ages from 20-40, the group seeks to live out of the Christian vocation and Ignatian character of St. Xavier Church to be people of service and reflection.
Consistent with the Jesuit identity of being “Contemplatives in Action”, the group gathers with regularity for prayer and discussion about where to do acts of service and goes out to participate in volunteer work. The goal of the group is to “find God in all things” by being in solidarity with the poor, the marginalized, and the needy.
Project-selection depend on the talents of group members and the needs of neighborhood agencies.
X-Acts also participates in social events.? Check out our calendar for upcoming social events.
The name, X-Acts, is loaded with meaning.”X” denotes the name of our parish; it is also the Greek letter “C”, the first letter for the name of Christ.”Acts” refers not only to our activities, but to the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, the story of the earliest Christian communities that spread the Gospel message after the ascension of Jesus.? In short, X-Acts is a group that does Christ-acts, reflecting a parish that does things for God’s greater glory.
*It helps now and then, to step back
Nothing we do is complete,
which is another way of saying
that the kingdom always lies beyond us.
No statement says all that could be said.
No prayer fully expresses our faith.
No confession brings perfection.
No pastoral visit brings wholeness.
No set of goals and objectives includes everything.
This is what we are about.
We plant seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything
and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
This enables us to do something
and do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way,
and an opportunity for God’s grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results,
but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders,
ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.
Amen
