St X’s Peru Mission Trip

October 28- November 7, 2011

What a wonderful opportunity to put your faith to work. We’re now in-process of finalizing our 6th Annual Mission trip to our sister parish, Virgen de Nazaret (Our Lady of Nazareth), in El Agustino, a very poor and needy part of Lima.

On a group basis, we’ll be take a plane to Lima, and then by bus to the parish. We’ll spend five days there, helping them in their ministries for half the day, and spending the balance of the day doing the tourist thing

in and around Lima. In the past, we’ve been able to help them by working in their bakery, making meals in their community kitchen, and helping them do some maintenance work like painting.

Mid-week, we’ll fly 350 miles from Lima to the Cusco/Machu Pichu area exploring Peru’s rich history and culture.

The air transportation, lodging, and local transportation portion will cost about $1,500-$1,800 per person. You’ll pay out-of-pocket for food and other personal items you purchase.

You’ll need a valid passport. Although vaccinations are not required, we do suggest getting one for tetanus, and hepatitis A & B. (Some vaccinations require your taking them at least a month in advance.)

The Jesuits of the Peru and Chicago Provinces partnered with each other in the late 50’s to start this mission. Within a four square-mile area, the Jesuit parish of Virgen de Nazaret has more than 130,000 parishioners. As it does throughout the world, the Jesuit community continues its dedication to helping these poor and struggling people. Although St. X Church has been an intricate element in helping its sister parish through fund raising activities, they need so much more. Virgen de Nazaret needs you.
