Wednesday October 4

A "Theology on Tap" discussion series meets in the back room at Northside Tavern 4163 Hamilton Ave., each Wednesday in October at 7pm. The theme for all the talks is “Catholic Myth Busters.”   On October 4th, Sr. Leslie Keener, CDP, will provide a short reflection on the myth, "The Church Never Changes." Religious Education Classes: St. Xavier Parish prepares our school aged children to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.  We also offer classes to foster their continued growth in the faith. Our next meeting of the St Xavier Young Adults Group will be October 8th after the 5pm mass.  Theme:  Hot Topics Night with Fr. Matthew Gamber, S.J. Thursday-Sunday October 12-15

Cincinnati BLINK, a free four-day light and art event spanning 20 city blocks, from the Banks to Findlay Market, will set up one of its stations just behind our church, in the Main St. parking lot.  Light projection mapping, painted murals, art sculptures and other displays created by local, national and international artists.  Visitors to BLINK will also be allowed to visit our church interior and see possible uses for our parish center.  We can use volunteers that weekend. Saturday October 14

Retreat for Parish Volunteers:  Catholic Charities invites volunteers from Cincinnati churches to a retreat to reflect on how serving others brings us closer to Christ. This event will renew our spirits so we're better equipped to assist others in need. Led by Fr. Jason Bedel of St. Margaret of York, the Retreat is Saturday October 14 from 9am to 2pm at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Milford. Mass will be celebrated before lunch. SUNDAY SPEAKERS SERIES:  Please help us welcome Dr. Henry Fenichel, Ph.D., University of Cincinnati Professor Emeritus, as our first speaker of this term.  His topic: “A Time to Remember, A Time to Hope.”  Come join Dr. Fenichel as he recounts his family’s Holocaust experience, including his internment at age 6 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and his harrowing escape from Nazi Germany.  Dr. Fenichel will speak to us Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 6:30 –7:30 in the parish center downstairs.  Pizza and salad will be served following the 5:00 Mass.

Our Baptism Class is for families who are celebrating their child's Baptism for the first time.  Deacon Tim Crooker will meet with parents the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the Parish Center (basement).  Please call the office to register:  513-721-4045.  It would be great if the godparents could attend as well.

Jesuit Vocations:  Young men around college age are invited to a conversation about a vocation as a Jesuit priest or brother.  On Sunday October 22, the Jesuits will hold a “Coffee and Conversation” event in the Cincinnati area.  An informal conversation of life and ministry in the Society of Jesus, especially for discerners.  Time and location TBA.  For more information e-mail Fr. Keeneland Bus Trip: Our parish outing to Keeneland racetrack in Lexington, KY is Thursday, OCTOBER 26; cost is $50 p/p and includes ticket, program, and bus accommodations. Sunday November 5

Our next meeting of the St Xavier Young Adults Group will be November 5th after the 5pm mass. Join a Young Adult Pilgrimage of Faith for a 5-mile walk around the major Catholic churches and sites of historic, downtown Cincinnati. Meet at St. X at 2 pm to drop off your pot luck contribution and then we make our pilgrimage around ten historical Catholic sites in town, ending at St. X for the 5 pm Mass and then pot-luck supper. Should be awesome.  Open to all, ages 21-30.  Be aware that we are also looking for young adults to form a community of work, faith, and service in Ignatius House, the former rectory next door to St X Church. 2019 - Our Parish Bicentennial

In two years, St Xavier Church (the oldest parish in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati) will celebrate its 200th anniversary.  If you would like to be in the running as we form a preparatory committee for this great celebration, please contact Fr Fairbanks at pfairbanks@stxchurch.org
